Music

Here we present you a selection of musicians who are members of the Gild and whose music is inspired by the work we do within the Gild.

Fire + Ice

Ian Read founded FIRE + ICE in 1991 after several years as a member of Sol Invictus. According to their website “The heartlessness of the modern commercial consumer society ruins the lives of many. FIRE + ICE takes the purity and philosophy of early music and melds it into a message redolent with powerful seeds of honour, truth, loyalty and the bond of true friendship.” His works as FIRE + ICE have had a large amount of influence on neofolk music.

Misdreamt

Misdreamt is a musical project from Toby Chappell that creates new ambient and experimental sounds from manipulated field recordings. The song titles and atmospheres are inspired by weird tales, starry wisdom, runes and folklore, the law of the trapezoid, and an appreciation for those things hidden just beyond our awareness.

Preston Galdrverkr

The author is Preston Galdrverkr, who usually performs with the project name “the Nemo-Dog”.

The song “Creation” was recorded for an album marking the completion of an Initiatory journey. My original lyrics are composed in Germanic long-line alliterating verse. The track opens with a line from the fifth Angle in “Infernal Geometry” by Toby Chappell. The next set of lines include the Hamar Rite from the “Nine Doors of Midgard” by Edred Thorsson. The main rune invoked in this track is Ingwaz. Secondary runes invoked are Bekano and Jera. The instrument is steel string guitar. The song “Come we Home” is composed in English, using Germanic long-line alliterating verse. It was recorded for an album I recorded as part of my Work in the Rune Gild. It includes an alliterating translation of the famous Havamal verses 76-77 (“cattle die, kinsmen die…”). The purpose of this track is to demonstrate a style of Old English gealdor. It is specifically to illustrate the role of a figure called a “wođbora”, whose functions likely included leading the community in sacred song. The instrument is a singing bowl, my voice, and the voices of some friends of mine.
